"Was Getting Difficult To...": Report Reveals Why DC Didn't Retain Pant

Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025 auction. The news became official once DC announced the list of their retained players and it didn't have the name of Pant in it. The 27-year-old joined the Delhi-based franchise in 2016 and started leading the Capitals in 2021. In 2020, Delhi Capitals reached their first-ever final. However, in the last season, they narrowly missed the playoffs based on net run rate, with Pant being their captain. A recent media report has revealed on why Pant was not retained by the Delhi-based franchise. According to a report in Times of India, Pant was involved in retention talks with Delhi Capitals and also had several meeting with them. However, GMR Group and JSW Group -- the two co-owner of the franchise -- decided to split their responsibilities and operations on a two-year rotation basis earlier this month, and a result of it, a difference in opinions was formed. "Pant has had a

"How's Shaw Going?" Australian Coach Takes Subtle Dig At India Star

Well-known Australian batting coach Neil D'Costa has cited Prithvi Shaw's decline in international cricket as a cautionary example, urging Australian selectors not to "rush" 19-year-old sensation Sam Konstas into Test cricket for the blockbuster series against India. He says Konstas isn't ready for the traditional five-day format yet, joining the debate around who would partner Usman Khawaja at the top in the five-match rubber against their fierce rivals from the sub-continent. D'Costa, who was born to Anglo-Indian parents hailing from Chennai, has in the past coached Michael Clarke, the late Phillip Hughes, and helped Mitchell Starc switch to fast bowling from wicket-keeping. The 53-year-old D'Costa has also worked on Konstas' batting in the past but the young New South Welshman is now coached by Tahmid Islam, an ex-Bangladesh first-class player, and former Australian star Shane Watson. He reckons handing Konstas Test debut now would do him more ha

Woman Strips At Iran University To Protest Strict Dress Code: Reports

A young woman stripped to her underwear at an Iranian university on Saturday in an apparent protest against the country's strict Islamic dress code, according to online videos and media reports. A video posted on social media showed security guards at a branch of the Islamic Azad University detaining the unidentified woman. University spokesperson Amir Mahjob said on X that "at the police station,...it was found that she was under severe mental pressure and had a mental disorder". But some social media users suggested the woman's action was a deliberate protest. "For most women, being ...in their underwear in public is one of their worst nightmares, ... This is a reaction to the (authorities') stupid insistence on the mandatory hijab," Lei La, a user on X, said in a comment accompanying the video. The fate of the woman was not known but the mass-circulation daily Hamshahri said on its website: "An informed source said...the perpetrator of this a

"Not A One Way Street": KKR CEO Drops Hint On Reason Behind Shreyas Decision

Venky Mysore, the CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), admitted that it was a very challenging task for them to trim the retentions down to six ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction after winning the previous season. KKR have made their top retention pick in middle-order batter Rinku Singh (INR 13 crore) followed by Andre Russell (INR 12 crore), Sunil Narine (INR 12 crore), Varun Chakaravarthy (INR 12 crore), and uncapped duo of Harshit Rana (INR 4 crore), and Ramandeep Singh (INR 4 crore). It meant KKR had to let go of their title-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer , Mitchell Starc , Phil Salt , Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana . “The no brainers would have been maybe 10 or 11 players, but trying to trim that down to six was very challenging, because it's about the players that you have built an equation with and who have done fantastic for KKR. “Sunil has been with us for 12 years while Andre has been with us for 10 years. Varun has been associated with KKR for a long time, since 2019 a

Rohit Sharma Breaks Silence On Not Being In The Top 3 Retentions For MI

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Thursday backed the retention of national team players in the Mumbai Indians squad for IPL 2025 while franchise skipper Hardik Pandya summed it up as "five fingers but one fist". Mumbai Indians chose to retain five Indian players as the IPL franchises submitted their list of retentions to end weeks of speculations around who were going to stay with their teams and who would be entering the auction pool. MI's retentions were 1. Jasprit Bumrah, 2. Hardik Pandya, 3. Suryakumar Yadav, 4. Rohit Sharma, 5. Tilak Varma. "Since I have retired from the format, this is the perfect (retention) spot for me. The players who are representing the national team at the highest level should get the preference. That's what I believe in. It's a very tough one when you come into a fresh auction and you start retaining players," former MI skipper Rohit said after being retained by the five-time winners. After a disastrous last season when th

Pant And DC Part Ways Ahead Of IPL Retention Over 'Captaincy': Report

Rishabh Pant , the country's No.1 wicketkeeper-batter, is all set to enter the IPL 2025 auction, according to a report. Ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline day on October 31,  it has been claimed that Rishabh Pant won't be retained by his franchise Delhi Capitals. Pant, after recovering from a major accident, made a return to the IPL last season. He has been a consistent feature in the Indian cricket team as well. The report, however, said that DC management was not convinced about the leadership qualities of Pant in T20.  "Rishabh Pant wanted captaincy, wanted to be involved with regards to appointment of coaches and support staff but plenty in the DC set-up are not convinced about his T20 game. It wasn't that they wanted to let him go but they were clear that they didn't see him leading the side. And that decision wasn't an overnight one," the report in Times of India quoted a source as saying. " Axar Patel is there as an option but there i

Doomsday Arctic Vault, The World's Backup Gene Bank, Sees Surge In Samples

An Arctic seed vault on Norway's Spitsbergen island received new samples last week from the largest number of depositors since 2020, reflecting fear about the threat of conflict and climate change to food security, a custodian of the facility said recently. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault, set deep inside a mountain to withstand disasters from nuclear war to global warming, was launched in 2008 as a backup for the world's gene banks that store the genetic code for thousands of plant species. Billed as a doomsday vault protected by permafrost, the deposit has received samples from across the world, and played a leading role between 2015 and 2019 in rebuilding seed collections damaged during the war in Syria. "Climate change and conflict threaten infrastructure and impact food security for over 700 million people in more than 75 countries worldwide," Executive Director Stefan Schmitz of the Crop Trust said in a statement. Among the new desposits, Bolivia's first

Dhoni's IPL Decision Confirmed As CSK Make Surprise No. 1 Retention Choice

The legendary MS Dhoni all but confirmed his intention to continue playing cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he dropped a subtle hint over his participation in the T20 league. When Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were approached for a reaction, the franchise's CEO Kasi Viswanathan also said that they are happy to see Dhoni being ready for another season of the IPL. What follows next is a call from Dhoni to the franchise owner N Srinivasan to finalise the retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 season. However, what has also been reported that skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad isn't the No. 1 retention choice for CSK, but rather all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja , who quit T20 internationals after India's T20 World Cup triumph this year. "When he is ready, what else (do) we want. We are happy," franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on Saturday. During an event, Dhoni had said that he wants to enjoy the last few years of cricket that he has left in him. "I ju
