What If Trump Refuses To Accept A Loss? Could It Lead To Civil Unrest?

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has never been one to abide by rules. Four years ago he cried fraud and did not accept the presidential election result and there could be a possibility of him doing the same this time around after the November 5 election. This time the only difference will be that Trump will not have his presidential levers of power which he had in the 2020 elections. Moreover, new laws have been implemented in the US to make it more difficult to influence election results. THE DENIAL "If I lose - I'll tell you what, it's possible. Because they cheat. That's the only way we're gonna lose, because they cheat," Trump said at a Michigan rally in September. Trump's team filed over 60 lawsuits, but none of them succeeded in altering or delaying the vote count. After losing the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and his supporters launched an unprecedented effort to overturn the results. This endeavor involved spreading b

"Ready To Pay Back Lenders Before Taking A Single Rupee Out": Byju's Founder

Byju Raveendran, the founder of troubled edtech firm Byju's, on Thursday said that he is willing to pay back all the money owed to lenders if they are willing to work with him. During a two-and-a-half-hour call with the media, Mr Raveendran said lenders will not get any money if the process of insolvency against the company continues. "If they are willing to work with me, I am willing to give them money back before I take a single rupee out. We paid $140 million but they wanted the entire $1.2 billion which we had already committed or invested by then. There is no way we could have given them back for a long time. Most lenders wanted to settle but one or two wanted to make a killing out of it," Mr Raveendran said. At present, Byju's is undergoing insolvency proceedings, triggered after the BCCI approached the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal to recover its Rs 158.9-crore dues. The company settled the dispute with BCCI after paying the entire dues following w

The help, identified as Reena (32) from Shanti Nagar Colony here, was caught on camera committing the alleged act, police said. The incident came to light when Rupam, house owner Nitin Gautam's wife, noticed her family members experiencing liver problems. No Warm-Up Game In Australia For India. Report Says "Internal Match vs..."

Team India will tour Australia later this year to play five Tests Down Under. This will be the first time since the 1991-92 season that the two heavyweights will meet over 5 Tests in a tour. India won back-to-back Test series in Australia, including their last trip Down Under in 2020-21. The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli back then, played three ODIs, as many T20Is, and two three-day practice matches before the Test series. However, the preparation will be a bit different in the lead up to the five-match series. According to a report in Cricbuzz , India's only warm-up game in Australia will be an internal contest. The senior men's team will take on the touring India 'A' side, also comprising of some Test regulars. How Far Can Trudeau Go As Personal Electoral Gain Trumps Diplomatic Ties

It is not uncommon to see a country's election campaigns politicise various global issues, but what is rather unusual and perhaps unique in the case of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, is "how far he can go" for personal electoral gains. His attempts have reached a level where actual diplomatic relations are seeing a fallout over "the politics of vote-bank". India and Canada are in the midst of the worst-ever diplomatic spat in the history of bilateral ties between the two nations. India has recalled its high commissioner to Canada and expelled six top diplomats from Canada yesterday. Canada mirrored India's move. The reason - Justin Trudeau's proximity to the Khalistan separatist movement and his sympathy towards declared terrorists and extremists who spread hate, violence, and extremism on Canadian soil - all to appeal to his vote bank. Mr Trudeau, who is seeking another term as Canada's prime minister, but facing one setback after another

"Felt Like Cracker Burst On Feet": Man Shot At During Baba Siddique Firing

Raj Kanojia, the man who suffered a bullet injury in the leg on the day Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai, rues the fact that he will be out of action for two months. This, he says, makes it difficult for him to contribute to his sister's wedding in February. Six rounds were fired on Baba Siddique , two of which hit the former Maharashtra minister on the chest, outside his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra between 9:15pm and 9:30pm on Saturday. A stray bullet hit the 22-year-old as he was returning from a fruit juice centre. " Madad kya sir ab toh pair main goli lag gayi hai. February main shadi hai sister ki. Do mahine kuch kar nahi paayege hum (What help, sir. I have been shot in the leg. My sister's wedding is in February. I won't be able to do much," lamented Mr Kanojia, dressed in a white kurta, from his hospital bed. "The atmosphere was such. It felt like crackers were being burst. I felt as if a cracker had exploded on my feet. Wh

"Act Against Evildoers": BJP MLA Distributes Swords Among Girls In Bihar

BJP MLA Mithilesh Kumar distributed swords among girls during the Vijayadashami celebration in Bihar's Sitamarhi district on Saturday. “If any evil person dares to touch our sisters, his hand will be chopped off with this very sword,” he said while addressing the gathering at one of the Puja Pandals at Kaprol Road in Sitamarhi city. “We have to make our sisters capable of cutting off their hands and, if needed, me and you all would have to do this. All those evildoers who have ill will against our sisters must be destroyed,” Mr Kumar said. When Baba Siddique Helped End SRK-Salman Khan Feud

Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai's Bandra today. A political veteran in Maharashtra, Mr Siddique left Congress, after nearly five decades of association with the party, and joined the ruling BJP's ally Nationalist Congress Party in February this year. He had served as a minister when the Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP coalition government was in power. Mr Siddique was known not just for his political connections across party lines but also for hosting lavish parties. In one such party in 2013, Mr Siddique inadvertently played a role in uniting two of Bollywood's megastars, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Despite occasional conflicts and publicised disagreements, the two actors have maintained a bond over the years. One significant moment in their relationship unfolded at Baba Siddique's Iftaar party in 2013, bringing an end to a five-year-long cold war. The Iftaar party hosted by Mr Siddique became the backdrop for the much-an

"Savages, Animals": Donald Trump Demonises Migrants In Misleading Speech

Donald Trump painted an apocalyptic picture of a country being "occupied" by hordes of criminal foreigners in a campaign speech Friday as he escalated his efforts to make November's US election about a migrant crime wave that isn't happening. With the White House race neck-and-neck in the final stretch, the Republican ex-president has been dividing his closing pitch between a protectionist economic message and riling his largely white, working-class supporters by demonizing immigrants. As his Democratic election rival Kamala Harris pledged to work with Republicans to promote a united government, Trump delivered as divisive a speech as he has ever given, wildly exaggerating local tensions and misleading his audience about immigration statistics and policy. "America is known, all throughout the world, as 'Occupied America.' They call it 'occupied.' We're being occupied by a criminal force," Trump thundered, in an 80-minute appearance Aur

Karnataka To Withdraw Case Against Rioters Who Attacked Cops, Sparks Row

The Congress government in Karnataka has decided to withdraw a criminal case registered against a mob which had attacked policemen with stones on April 16, 2022, in Hubballi town. This was one of the 43 cases the state Cabinet decided to withdraw at its meeting on Thursday following a petition by the Anjuman-e-Islam to the Home Minister G Parameshwara, official sources said. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday described the government's decision as the "height of appeasement." “Unfortunately, the Congress party here in Karnataka has reached the height of appeasement. They have withdrawn the case under the (anti-terror law) UAPA, when the matter is before the NIA court. In normal course, as far as I know, the state cannot withdraw it but they have still withdrawn it,” Mr Joshi said. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "The government has the power to withdraw some cases. There is a Cabinet subcommittee under the Home Minister's leadership, as per their discret

In Daring Assam Prisonbreak, 5 Men Scale 20-Foot Wall With Bedsheets, Lungis

Five undertrial prisoners, charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, escaped from a prison in Assam after breaking rods and scaling a 20-foot wall using bedsheets, blankets and ' lungis' (a piece of clothing worn around the waist).  The prisoners escaped from the Morigaon District Jail between 1 and 2 am on Friday, prompting the district administration to order a magisterial probe. The jailer, Prashanta Saikia, has been suspended, and two assistant jailers from Guwahati have been temporarily assigned to manage the prison. Inspector General (Prisons) Pubali Gohain will also conduct a separate departmental inquiry into the incident. The escaped prisoners, identified as Saifuddin, Ziarul Islam, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid, managed to break the rods of their barracks and used blankets, lungis, and bedsheets to scale the 20-foot compound wall.  Morigaon Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das confirmed that a manhunt has been launche

Ratan Tata , chairman emeritus of one of India's biggest conglomerates, Tata Sons, got the reins of Tata Group in March 1991. Almost three decades ago, in 1997, Ratan Tata appeared on the show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal' where he revealed how the takeover happened. JRD Tata was suffering from heart disease and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai when he broke the news and asked Ratan Tata to take over. “We were in Jamshedpur together for a function and I had to go to Stuttgart for some negotiations. When I came back, I heard he had a heart problem and he was in Breach Candy Hospital. He was there a week and I'd see him every day. He was out on a Friday and the following Monday, I went to see him in the office,” Ratan Tata recalled. Narrating the incident, he added, “He would always start meeting by asking, ‘Well, what's new?' And I said, ‘J I'd been seeing you every day, there is nothing new since I saw you last.' He said, ‘Well, I have some

Israel pounded central Beirut with a deadly air strike on Thursday while its ground troops in Lebanon were accused of firing on the UN's peacekeeping headquarters, injuring two of them. The air raid on Beirut, where an AFP journalist heard several loud explosions, was the third such attack on the centre of the Lebanese capital since Israel escalated its campaign last month. "The Israeli enemy's attacks on the capital Beirut this evening resulted in an updated toll of 22 people killed and 117 others injured," Lebanon's health ministry said in a statement. A Lebanese security source, without giving further details, said a "Hezbollah figure" was targeted, after a series of killings of top officials in the Iran-backed movement. AFP live TV footage showed two plumes of smoke billowing in between densely-packed buildings, while there was no immediate comment from Israeli authorities about the nature of the target. Most Israeli strikes have targeted the so

A senior functionary of the Central Durga Puja Committee of the city said some of the organisers have also put up Tata's photograph beside the marquees. "We have appealed to all the community puja committees to observe the festival in a simple manner and urged them not to play any music, barring mandatory instruments like 'dhak' (drum) etc, to pay respect to Ratan Tata," General Secretary of the Central Puja Committee, Ashutosh Kumar Singh, told PTI. Altogether 332 community puja committees affiliated to the Central Committee unanimously agreed to the call and stopped playing music, except those related to the puja. Yuvraj Singh Scathing Comment On Abhishek Sharma's Post After 1st T20I

Chasing a mediocre target of 128 runs against Bangladesh in the first T20I on Sunday, India openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson looked to give the team a fine start. Just as the duo looked to have settled in, Abhishek was run out for 16 runs off 7 balls. The disappointment at losing the wicket in such a fashion was visible on the batter's face. Though India still went on to win the match by a comprehensive margin, Abhishek didn't manage to evade criticism. After the conclusion of the opening T20I, Abhishek took to Instagram and shared a post which read: "Every run, every ball-it's all for the team." Abhishek's mentor Yuvraj Singh , who is one of the finest India cricketers of his generation, didn't hold back and left a critical comment on the opening batter's post. "Only if we apply our brains properly," Yuvraj wrote. Yuvraj singh wasn't happy with Abhishek Sharma's dismissal. pic.twitter.com/aQLvqfdgdQ — Vipin Tiwari (@V

On J&K's Statehood Demand, Ram Madhav Says Yes, Then Adds A Caveat

Jammu and Kashmir will get its statehood but there seems to be some small print involved, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav indicated today. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, the leader who was in charge of the Union Territory, said the BJP has committed to a return of statehood "on the floor of the House". But asked about a time frame for it, he said, "You remember one thing. Jammu Kashmir has travelled a lot of distance in the last 5 to 10 years. It gave up its terror-based identity, it is a very peaceful state in terms of separatism... even Jamaat has joined the electoral process. That is a very big achievement. But those in power in the state should be reassuring the people in Delhi that they won't bring those tendencies back into this region. Then full statehood is possible". "There are people who are demanding the release of all terrorists in jail, demanding restoration of Article 370. With that kind of attitude, if they go to the assembly and then st

"She Would've Killed Me": Note Of Man Who Cut Girlfriend's Body Into Pieces

If I had not killed her, Mahalaxmi would have killed me - read a chilling note written by a man who killed his partner and chopped up her body into pieces before dying by suicide last month. Mahalaxmi was last seen at her workplace in Bengaluru on September 1, the same day her team head and boyfriend Mukti Ranjan Roy was last seen. Weeks later, neighbours reported a foul smell coming from her house and informed her relatives. When the 29-year-old's mother reached the house on September 21, she didn't find her daughter but chopped-up body parts stuffed in her fridge and blood inside her washroom instead. The police said Mahalaxmi's boyfriend cut her body into more than 50 pieces after killing her. Police traced Roy's location to Odisha's Bhadrak. But it was too late by the time they reached him. Before police could catch him, he killed himself. Near his body, they found the suicide note which contained shocking details of his relationship with Mahalaxmi and his

Mexican Mayor Decapitated 6 Days After Taking Office, Head Found On Truck

The mayor of the capital of Mexico's violence-plagued state of Guerrero was killed on Sunday less than a week after he took office, the state's governor confirmed. Alejandro Arcos was killed just six days after he took office as mayor of the city of Chilpancingo, a city of around 280,000 people in southwestern Mexico. "His loss mourns the entire Guerrero society and fills us with indignation," Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado said in a statement shared on social media. Guerrero's state attorney general's office also said it was investigating his murder. The official confirmation came after photos circulated on the messaging app WhatsApp depicting a severed head on top of a pick-up truck, appearing to be that of Arcos. Reuters could not independently verify the photos' authenticity. Arcos' death comes just three days after the new city government's secretary, Francisco Tapia, was shot to death. On Harmanpreet Kaur's Neck Injury, Smriti Mandhana Issues Update

During India's six-wicket win over Pakistan in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, captain Harmanpreet Kaur retired hurt on 29 after losing her balance and injuring her neck just before the game ended leaving many worried. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who stood in for Harmanpreet in the post-match presentation ceremony, said the medical team is looking into the Indian skipper's neck injury. “Too soon to say anything, the medics are looking at it. Hopefully she is alright,” said Smriti. After restricting Pakistan to 105/8, thanks to Arundhati Reddy's career-best spell of 3-19, India were expected to complete the chase in a jiffy, with an eye to boost their net run rate, which took a severe hit due to the 58-run defeat to New Zealand. But with Pakistan being disciplined with their bowling, India could amass only 25/1 in power-play and never showed urgency to take risks for finishing the chase quickly. Gazan mother Rana Salah cradles her one-month-old daughter Milana in her arms in a sweltering tent for the displaced, and speaks of the guilt she feels for bringing her child into a world of war and suffering. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant or given birth during the war because life is completely different; we've never lived this life before," she said, speaking at a camp in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. "I gave birth twice before, and life was better and easier for me and the child. Now, I feel like I've wronged both myself and the child because we deserve to live better than this." Milana was born in a hospital tent by caesarean owing to complications with Salah's pregnancy. The family have not been able to return home due to the conflict, moving instead from one tent to another. Milana is one of around 20,000 babies to have been born in Gaza in the last year, according to UNICEF statistics. The current war, a

Ashwin Feels "Sorry" About Pakistan's Poor State, Calls It Musical Chairs

Pakistan cricket team is having the worst nightmare of its life. The 1992 World Cup champions are constantly facing severe criticism from both fans and former cricketers, for their back-to-back poor performances. The story began from the league stage elimination at the ODI World Cup in 2023 to the shocking group stage loss at the T20 World Cup 2024. The struggles of Pakistan are still on as they recently lost the two-match Test series 0-2 against Bangladesh, adding another loss at their home soil. These losses have sparked numerous changes in the team's leadership as after the debacle at the ODI World Cup, all-format skipper Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy and pacer Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the white-ball captain while Shan Masood is still leading the team in Tests.  Shaheen was removed from the captaincy after a 2-0 loss in a four-match T20I series against England and Babar was again handed over the white-ball captaincy in March this year. However, Babar's s

Big Solar Storm To Hit Earth, Warns NASA. Will It Affect India?

More Israeli Strikes Pound Beirut After Fresh Warning From Iran: 10 Points

The Israeli army issued fresh evacuation orders in Beirut's southern suburbs last evening, after which a series of loud blasts were heard in the area near the airport. Hezbollah is also engaged in ongoing clashes with Israeli troops in the Lebanon border area during ground raids. It said in a statement that Israeli soldiers tried to approach the village of Adaysseh when their operatives confronted them. Three hospitals in Lebanon were forced to suspend work after damages due to Israeli strikes as the Lebanese Prime Minister urged the global community to pressure Israel to allow rescuers to reach bombed sites. Israel is now fighting both Palestine and Lebanon, which are part of the Iran-backed 'Axis of Resistance' group, in a war that started with the October 7 attack by Hamas and has now widened to a regional conflict. The Palestinian Hamas group's October 7, 2023 attack, called the 'Al-Aqsa Flood', had targeted Israeli border towns, sparking a fierce West

"Hit The Nuclear First": Donald Trump's Big Warning To Iran

Republican White House hopeful Donald Trump said Friday he believes Israel should strike Iran's nuclear facilities in response to the Islamic republic's recent missile barrage. The former president, speaking at a campaign event in North Carolina, referred to a question posed to Democratic President Joe Biden this week about the possibility of Israel targeting Iran's nuclear program. "They asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran? And he goes, 'As long as they don't hit the nuclear stuff.' That's the thing you want to hit, right?" Trump told a town hall style event in Fayetteville, near a major US military base. Biden was asked on Wednesday whether he would support strikes against Iranian nuclear sites and the US president told reporters: "The answer is no." "I think he's got that one wrong," Trump said Friday, in response to a participant's question about the issue. "Isn't that what you

"UN Security Council Not Fixable In Current Format": US Ex Envoy To NDTV

Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton today told NDTV that the United Nations is a huge organisation and that many bodies of the global body are irrelevant. He said the UN's massive size is a part of its problems. "Some of the specialised and technical agencies do good work when they stay out of politics. But the Security Council and the General Assembly, the Human Rights Council are paralysed and therefore largely irrelevant," Mr Bolton told NDTV. "I am not sure if there is any way to bring meaningful reform. Many people have tried over the years, many suggestions have been given. It's very hard to see if any of them can be brought to bear," he added. Mr Bolton's comments come at a time when the world is beset by wars, humanitarian crises and other problems, bringing the focus back to whether the UN is becoming incapable of ensuring multilateral responses to solve serious global problems. On how the UN can address some of the problems - if it c

The man told the teacher that her college-going daughter had been caught in a sex racket.  Ms Verma's son, Dipanshu, said the call came around noon and the man asked her to deposit Rs 1 lakh in a particular account to ensure that her daughter came back home safe and no case was filed. The man also allegedly told Ms Verma that he was calling her to ensure that the family did not have to go through the trauma of having their daughter implicated in a sex racket-related case.
