The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed today due to landslides at multiple places along the highway.  A large number of vehicles are stranded along the Highway. Sriram Ambarla, a 25-year-old from Hyderabad attacked his ex-girlfriend Sona Biju, 23, at the restaurant where she worked after threatening to murder her if she did not agree to marry him. When Ms Biju turned him down by saying that she "did not want to live by his rules", Ambarla grabbed her by the neck and began stabbing her. Iraq's parliament passed a bill on Saturday criminalising same-sex relations, which will receive a sentence of up to 15 years in prison, in a move rights groups condemned as an "attack on human rights". Transgender people will be sentenced to three years' jail under the amendments to a 1988 anti-prostitution law, which were adopted during a session attended by 170 out of 329 lawmakers. A previous draft had proposed capital punishment for same-sex relations, in what campaigners had called a "dangerous" escalation. The new amendments enable courts to sentence people engaging in same-sex relations to between 10 to 15 years in prison, according to the document seen by AFP, in the country where gay and transgender people already face frequent attacks and discrimination. They also set a minimum seven-year prison term for "promoting" same-sex relations and a sentence ranging from one to three years for men who "intentionally" act like women.

Voting took place in 14 constituencies in Karnataka, with the Election Commission estimating the turnout at 69.23 per cent. However, the percentage of voters who exercised their franchise in three urban constituencies in the city -- Bangalore Central, Bangalore North and Bangalore South -- was significantly lower. The approximate voter turnout in Bangalore Central was 52.81 per cent, Bangalore North - 54.42 per cent and Bangalore South - 53.15 per cent. Ten Indian nationals working as support staff with the Russian military have been released and have returned to India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi has been pressing Russia to ensure the return of all other citizens serving in similar positions in the country's military. "Ten such individuals have come back to India and they have been released and they have returned home," Mr Jaiswal said at his weekly media briefing. A 62-year-old man was bludgeoned to death allegedly by his cousin on suspicion of doing occult practice to kill him, police said on Sunday. The incident happened in Bharhki village on Saturday afternoon. Indrajit Pathak, who is physically challenged, was taking a bath near a hand pump outside his house when his cousin Mahendra Nath Pathak (54) came there and attacked him with a thick wooden block, they said. Due to the repeated attack, Indrajit fell to the ground and started bleeding profusely. Hearing the commotion, the victim's daughter Aanchal, who is also physically challenged, came outside but her uncle fled, police said. Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyayan said the villagers and police rushed Indrajit to the district hospital. On Sunday, he was referred to a trauma centre in Varanasi, where he died. Manipur chief electoral officer on Saturday announced repolling at 11 polling stations in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on April 22. The decision follows a directive from the Election Commission to declare the polls held at these stations on April 19 as null and void and schedule fresh polling. The affected polling stations are Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in the Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao and one in Thongju in Imphal East district and three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam in Imphal West district, the official said.  Adult content companies Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos will have to do risk assessment reports and take measures to address systemic risks linked to their services to comply with new EU online content rules, the European Commission said on Friday. The three companies were designated as very large online platforms last December under the Digital Services Act (DSA) which requires them to do more to remove illegal and harmful content on their platforms. Pornhub and Stripchat will have to comply with these DSA obligations, among the strictest, on April 21 and XVideos on April 23, the EU executive said. "These specific obligations include submitting risk assessment reports to the Commission, putting in place mitigation measures to address systemic risks linked to the provision of their services," it said in a statement. An Indian national awaiting deportation because of his illegal entry into the United States has died at a hospital in Atlanta, federal authorities said Wednesday. The Indian Consulate in New York has been notified about the death of Jaspal Singh, 57, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said, adding that his next of kin have also been notified about it. Singh died at a hospital in Atlanta on April 15. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death, ICE said. Singh, an Indian citizen, first entered the US legally on October 25, 1992. On January 21, 1998, an immigration judge ordered Singh's removal from the US, and on an unknown date, Singh returned to India voluntarily. On June 29, 2023, he was arrested by US Customs and Border Protection's Border Patrol officers while illegally reentering the United States at the US-Mexico Border. The bodies of three men from Assam have been found in unmarked shallow graves in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills. The bodies were completely burnt and beyond recognition. The men were identified by the hired car they were travelling in, which was found nearby. The police said a preliminary inquiry indicated that the men were executed, their bodies set on fire to evade identification and then buried. The bodies were found in Rongmil area, 15 km from Rongjeng in East Garo Hills. Two of the men were found in a single grave. The other, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was in another grave. The police stumbled upon the graves while searching for the men whom their families had reported missing. Assets of BJP's state president Sukanta Majumdar, who is also seeking re-election from the Balurghat seat, recorded a 114 per cent rise since 2019, the report stated. West Bengal Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysed self-sworn affidavits of all 47 candidates who are contesting from three constituencies of West Bengal -- Darjeeling, Balurghat and Raiganj -- that are going to polls in the second phase on April 26. Mr Bista, according to his affidavit filed during the 2019 elections, had assets worth over Rs 15 crore. The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested two accused for their alleged involvement in the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's residence in Bandra West. The Mumbai Police have confirmed that the two accused were caught in Gujarat's Bhuj late on Monday night. "Both the accused, who fled Mumbai after the firing, have been arrested from Gujarat's Bhuj," officials said. They will be brought to Mumbai for further investigation, they added. The firing incident, which occurred on Sunday early morning, saw two unidentified men opening fire outside Galaxy Apartments, where the actor resides, and fled from the spot. The incident prompted swift action from law enforcement agencies. According to preliminary investigation, the suspects arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, covering their faces under helmets, indicating a "meticulously planned attack." They discharged a total of four rounds during the incident, leaving behind a live cartridge at the scene.

A woman has been arrested for throwing boiling water on his sleeping husband and teaming up with her family members to thrash him and then pushing him off the terrace, said Uttar Pradesh police.   The incident, which took place in the dead of the night on April 13, was reported from Deoria, some 50 km from Gorakhpur.   "The man was visiting his in-laws when his wife threw hot water on him and then the family beat him up," said a police officer.
